Our Purpose
PSATC empowers the leadership in First Class Townships through resources, advocacy, education and collaborations that create a vibrant quality of life for millions of Pennsylvania residents, businesses and visitors.
Our History
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners (PSATC) was founded in 1925 to represent the interests of Townships of the First Class.
For nearly 100 years, PSATC has provided a platform for leaders in First Class Townships to share best practices, advocate for effective legislation and laws, provide educational opportunities, and provide the tools necessary for leaders to build strong, vibrant communities across Pennsylvania.
With shared local government policy interests, PSATC has partnered with the Pennsylvania Municipal League (PML) since 1983 to provide advocacy and secretariat services for the organization.
Some of the key successes over the years include assistance in rewriting and updating of the First Class Township Code, recently signed into Pennsylvania law as Act 96, effective December 2020. Originally enacted in 1931, the code had not undergone a comprehensive update since 1949.
PSATC continues to explore collaborative strategies to meet the changing needs of its members as the organization moves into its next century of service to First Class Townships.
Our Mission
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners (PSATC) is empowering first class leadership that builds vibrant communities through education, networking, legislative advocacy and promoting best practices in local township government.
