The PSATC family is saddened to announce the passing of long time visionary Past PSATC President and current Hampden Township Commissioner John V. Thomas.
Commissioner Thomas had a passion for public service and a deep commitment to his community. Commissioner Thomas wasn’t just a ‘member’ of an organization as his vision led him to serve as President of many community institutions serving not only Hampden Township but benefiting the entire Commonwealth. In addition to serving as a PSATC Past President, he was President of the following organizations, PA State Association of Council of Governments, Central Association of Township Commissioners, West Shore Wage Tax Bureau, West Shore Council of Governments, South Central League of Municipalities, Hampden Township Board of Commissioners, Mechanicsburg North Rotary.
He was selected to serve on the Governor’s Task Force for Housing, County Delegate to Cumberland County Transportation Task Force, Vice-President of the PA Local Government Investment Trust and Vice-President of the Hampden Township IDA.
With a deep appreciation for his faith was active in both the Friends of Historic Peace Church and the Good Shephard Church. Commissioner Thomas was a guiding light for so many and never hesitated to share his passion for improving the lives of others.
Commissioner Thomas served in the 28th Infantry Division of the PA National Guard and was a graduate of Villanova University with a BS in Economics. He was an Advisor with Morgan Stanley and was selected as Harrisburg Magazines “Readers Choice” Stockbroker twice as well as “Simply the Best” Stockbroker.
Perhaps the only thing that outmatched his commitment to our community was his love for family. He was blessed by a wonderful family with his wife Judy and their Daughter Kathleen and three grandsons Michael, Ethan and Kyle.
